One Day Course

The one day course on power quality introduces and covers the various measurement parameters that are talked about and can be measured when looking at the energy and power of an electrical installation.

An introduction is given to what power quality and energy is and an overview of some of the legislation and standards you could potentially come across when talking to your clients, such as ESOS and ISO50001. We can some how assistance is available to businesses from schemes such as the ETL (Energy Technology List) and show how you can reference this resource to help with energy saving projects.

During the day we introduce the typical power quality and energy parameters and what you should be monitoring and why. These parameters are related to Amendment 2 in the 18th Edition to help you better understand how Appendix 17 Energy Efficiency and Part 8 Prosumer Installations can be measured as part of the wiring regulations.

Additional subject introduced include the typical power quality parameters monitored in the power quality standard BS:EN50160 and why these should be monitoring to ensure the supply to the installation is correct and loading is not effecting the local network. Measurements discussed from the standard including voltage flicker, transients, sags and swells, voltage frequency and harmonics

Portable instrumentation and how to setup and connect the equipment correctly is demonstrated towards the end of the end, along with opportunity to discuss solutions such as Voltage Optimisation and Power Factor Correction, where you will learn the basics of how these technologies work and advice on test and measurement equipment capabilities to help you measure power quality and energy efficiency.
